MINI USA Gets Personal

With their new ad campaign that is…

Question: Will there ever be a way to make people voluntarily carry around RFID tags?

Answer: As long as it plays into the typical egotistical human nature, absolutely.

Starting with a pilot ad program in New York, Chicago, Miami and San Francisco, MINI USA has allowed MINI owners the ability to see a personalized message every time they drive near the RFID-enabled billboard.

Users will be sent an RFID keychain in the mail, which they can use to enter a custom message of their choice.

From Engadget:

“…let's face it, the mastermind behind this ad campaign probably got the raise we all wanted, but didn't come close to. So if you're a MINI owner in one of the four lucky cities, keep a keen eye on that inbox, and word on the street is that MINI USA is planning on hitting up more cities if (read: when) this proves to be a smash hit.”
