Do you know where your exotic pet is?

Many people own exotic pets. At times, however, these extraordinary creatures could pose a problem for the rest of society if they should, err…escape. They’re on top of it in Florida though, as a new rule has been adopted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission under which various reptiles will be injected with RFID tags once they achieve a diameter of two inches.

The Florida Animal Control Association, whose primary membership consists of individuals who carry out animal control and protection, supports the microchip requirement to help better track snakes and other non-native animals and reptiles that end up in the wild.

Interesting note: conservative estimates peg the number of Burmese pythons alone in the state of Florida at 3,000.
