Advances with metal

A new development that enables RFID technology to be used with metal products has been launched.

A joint venture between QinetiQ and Crown Holdings has introduced an application which makes use of QinetiQ's Omni-ID Pak and allows RFID tags to be used for a wide range of items, reports New Electronics.

The RFID-enabled containers will leverage QinetiQ's Omni-ID chip technology, specifically created to overcome RF interference typically caused by metal and liquids.

By changing the way in which the construction and operation of passive antenna are used in RFID technology, the UHF tag can be mounted onto a single item such as a food or beverage can using Omni-ID Pak technology.
