Ssshhh - this is a library!

Dewey decimal what? RFID isn’t just for techies anymore – your local library may soon follow the lead of the Hamburg city library in Germany. They will be implementing an RFID-based system to check materials in and out.

Patrons and staff at Hamburg's libraries will benefit from faster check-in and checkout times, more accurate holding information and a better theft-control system…the new RFID application will completely replace the libraries' current tracking system, which is based on bar codes.

The system will be provided by FKI Logistex; the company won the contract and a ten-year agreement from the the Hamburg public library system.
