Motorola and Symbol Strike a Deal
A post over at RFIDUpdate states: The question for many in the RFID industry is why Motorola was attracted to Symbol for its RFID business. On the one hand, Symbol is a clear leader in the space, with a portfolio of fixed and handheld readers, antennas, and tags… RFID is still between one and three years away from the explosive adoption that many industry-watchers in 2003 and 2004 predicted would have already occurred.
Why was Motorola attracted to the business?!? Let’s see, Symbol is a clear leader in the industry; the acquisition makes them a ‘powerhouse’ and sets them up with a highly-lucrative, long term opportunity. Umm…making a deal today that will undoubtedly result in explosive returns in the future – I think that’s the definition of a good investment!
Symbol’s strengths in RFID, Wi-Fi and networking will complement Motorola's wireless technologies, resulting in a "seamless mobility" package for businesses.
