Worry, warts and all

The negative reaction to RFID on the basis of its privacy invasion potential makes me sometimes wonder if we ever would have pioneered anything if the negative potential of everything drowned out the potential for good. It's not that the naysayers are always wrong, although I don't think they make a very strong case in this piece. In fact, part of the argument being made actually in my view points out we're not very immune to begin with (see the credit card magnetic stripe item in the article). My real objection is that these various reports seem to imply that the only solution is to rid the world of the technology. How about instead we fix the flaws?

If, upon the invention of the telephone, the world had fixated on the potential privacy issues associated with wire tapping, would we have phones today? When electric lights were invented, snoopers could see us in our homes at night. Should lights be banned?
