My Uncle Stepfather-in-Law lives in Florida (we're a very close family). He's on about 25 daily perscription medications for his paper mache heart. He's going to love this new law.

As Florida prepares for a new law that requires pharmaceutical distributors to document who takes possession of prescription drugs as they travel from manufacturers to retail shelves, an industry debate rages on over the type of radio frequency identification technology best suited to secure the supply pipeline. Enforcement of the law is set to begin July 1.

OK, basically this says the lawmakers want this, but they as yet have no idea how to do this exactly. Well, they have about, what, 15 or so days? I suspect in the meantime, your chronically ill will, well... cope? ... Have a Tic Tac for your Heart Attack! Take a Tums for the Doldrums. Meanwhile, read this so you understand why this new law is so urgent:

Randall Lutter, U.S. Food and Drug Administration associate commissioner for policy and planning, told attendees at the RFID World 2006 conference in March the department's criminal office of investigations opened 38 counterfeit drug cases in 2005, and estimates nearly 4 billion prescriptions were filled that year.

Let's see... 4 billion perscriptions; 38 cases. Let me get out my calculator. Yep, by my crude math, somebody in matters of policy is a zero!
