The 'Live Free or Die State' Distinguishes Itself Again

Such a pretty place, New Hampshire. How odd that its physical beauty stands in such stark contrast to the oratorical landfill that can, on occasion, be the state's House of Representatives where speechifiers have been known to craft modern remarks from scraps of old and noble quotes of real revolutionaries, all in the name of something not well-understood.

They are not without their advocates. This 'Perspective' piece -- an opinion column -- demonstrates that at least one media person is behind New Hampshire's initiative to reject the federally-sponsored Real ID Act. This movement's local hero: NH Representative Neal Kurk who is horrified by the prospect of RFID-based ID cards for citizens. In proposing a rejection of the Act by his peers:

Kurk invoked the memory of Patrick Henry's revolutionary speech, "Give me liberty or give me death," and New Hampshire's motto, "Live Free or Die."... "The war on our civil liberties is actually begun," Kurk said. "There's a price to be paid for independence. But I ask you, what price-- liberty?"
