We've Never Said No To More, Better, Faster, Cheaper

You just can't follow technology products and trends for the past twenty five years as I have and not know on every level the pure, unadulterated inevitability of RFID. OK, so that long past qualifies me for the senile set but I'm not wrong about this. Read and write all the articles you want about the high cost of RFID chips keeping the market from attaining launch velocity -- articles like this one, yet again, over and over, in which for convenience a set of sweeping generalities are made because putting a $.40 tag on a $.25 donut doesn't make sense. Duh! Of course it doesn't.

But RFID is making so much sense in so many other mainstream places because it delivers more data, better data, faster data, and data that in the long run makes everything less costly to build and funnel through the supply chain.

Look, they used to do these 'when the cost comes down' articles about personal computers. They wrote these articles when floppies and hard drives first came on the scene. They're writing them now about the price/performance issues between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray technology. We saw it with the advent of printers, fax machines, cell phones, MP3 players... heck, it was talked about at the dawn of bar code. But never, ever, ever in the long run has anyone ever said no to any technology option that delivers more, better, faster, and inevitably cheaper, solutions.
