Old Timers Say They Darndest Things, Don't They?

Last week at CeBIT, the European Commission announced a pan-European study of RFID... all for the usual reasons. For example: Viviane Reding, the EU commissioner behind the exercise, warned that wider use of RFID would not be allowed to undermine the fundamental liberties that European citizens enjoy. I love that sort of whetoric. It always makes me think they might as well say, "We're entitled to stay a generation back in technology and capitlistic development if we want-- that's our right." But hey, as far as Viviane is concerned, she thinks she is looking out for us.

But I was struck most by the comments of Vint Cerf, celebrated Internet technology pioneer and now a fellow on the Google payroll. Is he getting more and more Wozniakian every day? Asked about the importance of RFID, Cerf joked he can't want for the day he never loses another sock.
