Here's a Beautiful But Unreadable Report on RFID from Japan

Man, what a gorgeous looking blog... Unfortunately it uses black type on a black background and me being about 100 and wearing quadrafocals as it is, it's almost impossible to read. It's called The ShiSh List. It ought to be called the SqUInt SiTe. Geesh! Still, it has a story about a convenience mart in Japan that is testing RFID in the retail setting and finding that check-out times are taking an average of ten seconds. TEN seconds... how great is that?

The RFID reads everything all at once. The slurpy, the Marlboros, the Charleston Chew, beer. It'll even take your money right off a card.

That's nice for the operator I suppose because if they are anything like the proprietors of convenience stores in America, they are on the damn cell phone. Does anyone know who the convenience store people are talking to? They must be talking to all the people who are driving badly down the Maine turnpike.

So, anyway, at long last, maybe 'convenience' will actually be a real part of shopping at the local convenience store. The Kwiki Mart will actually be quick? Veddy scary!
