Virgin to RFID: Tag Me

News comes today via RFID Weblog that every part of every plane in Virgin Airway's entire fleet has been tagged with RFID. The company says a simple read of the entire plane tells them exactly everything they want to know quickly when it comes to their aircraft parts.

In the words of Gareth Lewis, IT services director at Virgin Group:

'Every part of the aeroplane is tagged with RFID. Now, we can point a gun at it and take a snapshot of all its component parts -- it's a really quick and efficient way of seeing what's in the plane...'

OK, so it's not the biggest news since the discovery of bottled beer, but for the many headline possibilities on a piece like this, I couldn't resist.
