RFID to Put Lid on Manhole Mayhem in China

This news falls into the category of 'Who knew?' Turns out, according to this report from TechWeb.com... Up to 24,000 manholes disappear from China's streets each year...Thieves take them to junk yards and get paid for the iron.
I'm thinking a person has to be two things to engage in this activity: real strong and real poor. My next thought is all about imagining what would happen to my 1999 Mazda Pick Up with no pick up, by the way, if it hit one of these open holes. Oh My! But I digress.
Here's how RFID is coming to the rescue: The country's state-run media reported this week that the government will tag about 1,000 manholes in Beijing. The tags store data about utilities and are expected to help utility workers and others with readers locate missing manholes.
You could say it's a new system for Manhole Manhunting... might make for a new reality series?
