Finger and Grain? Fred and Ginger?

OK, this will expose my ignorance. What the heck is this? Also, is it just me or is it somewhat sketchy that the news carries a Grapevine, Texas, dateline but a press contact, none other than Ken Kato, CEO & President, in Tokyo?

Wise Media Technology (WMT) introduces the Finger & Grain Communication System (FGC). This new breakthrough RFID system dramatically advances the usage of RFID applications. While wireless RFID tags are becoming ubiquitous, high costs and limited distances have hampered the use of passive and active tags in many applications. WMT has overcome this problem by developing a unique progressive communications method for using hybrid RFID tags called GRAIN. It uses no batteries, yet combines the features of both passive and active tags. This allows real time precision data collection. FGC offers the industries first truly low-cost high quality RFID solution.

Sorry for the length of that clip, but I didn't want to leave anything out that might be relevant.
